Elon Women’s Tennis Wraps Up Day Two of Elon Fall Invitational

ELON, N.C. – Suzanne Zenoni adavanced to the finals of the top singles draw, and the Elon University women’s tennis team completed the second day of competition at the Elon Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 10, at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.

HIGHLIGHTS
Zenoni won two singles matches to advance to the finals of the Maroon Singles flight to highlight the second day of competition. She won her quarterfinals match 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 against Gaby Rosales of Richmond and defeated Drousile Dzeubou of Radford 6-3, 6-4 in the semifinals to advance to the finals of the draw. Zenoni will face Bridget Harding of Emory in the championship tomorrow at 10:15 a.m.

Zenoni also paired with freshman Alex Koniaev in the Maroon Doubles flight. Although they advanced to the semifinals on Friday, the duo dropped a hard-fought 8-6 match against Dzeubou and Sayer of Radford.

In addition for the Phoenix, Maria Paraja and Erica Braschi advanced to the semifinals of their respective draws, but fell in their semifinals matchups on Saturday afternoon. Natalia Janowiczalso earned a spot in the semifinals of her Gold Singles draw, but fell to Wake Forest’s Courtney Meredith 6-4, 6-7 (2), 6-3 in the semifinals match.

Koniaev rebounded on day two with two singles victories in the consolation round of the Powell Singles draw. She earned a 7-5, 7-5 win against Elaine Vernoff of Emory and a 4-6, 6-0, 10-8 victory over Aleksandra Panchenko of Liberty to reach the finals of the consolation round.

Kirsten Ward also won her consolation quarterfinals match 6-4, 6-3 against Sarah Swiderski of UNCG before falling in the semifinals in the Maroon SingleS draw.

Also in doubles competition, Ward and Braschi on their consolation match 8-1 against Franco and Adams of UNCG and will play in the consolation finals of the Gold Doubles draw on Sunday. Paraja and Janowicz also won their consolation doubles match in the Powell Doubles draw with a 8-3 win over North Carolina Central’s Floet and Glover.

UP NEXT
Day three begins at 9 a.m. at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center. The day will begin with the finals of doubles followed by the singles finals to conclude the fall tournament.
