Elon Volleyball Phoenix Sweeps Eagles; Wins Seventh Straight

DURHAM, N.C. – The Elon volleyball team continued its winning streak, claiming its seventh straight victory with a 3-0 (25-22, 25-14, 25-9) final at North Carolina Central tonight, Sept. 13, in McDougald-McClendon Arena.

The Phoenix (10-2) was led by 10 kills from Kam Terry followed by seven kills off 10 attempts and no errors from Sydney Busa as she hit .700. Ally Karle recorded six kills off eight attempts and no errors to hit .750, while Sydel Curry tallied 21 assists to help the Phoenix hit .344 overall.

On defense, Elon had nine total blocks with five from Karle and three by Michelle Klein. Maddie Jaudon matched a three-set career high with 19 digs (6.33/set) followed by eight each from Busa and Terry.

The Eagles (1-6) saw a team-high eight kills by Casey Curran and a double-double from Paige Phillips after 17 assists and 15 digs.

How it Happened
A kill by Terry and a Curry ace got the Phoenix off to a quick 3-0 start in the first set. Elon increased the advantage to five, 12-7, after back-to-back kills by Terry. The maroon and gold led by as much as seven, 22-15, before the Eagles pulled within one, 22-21. Kills by Karle, Ebony Scott and Klein kept the Phoenix in front and won the set, 25-22.

With the maroon and gold trailing by one, 4-3, the serve of Jaudon helped Elon to a 9-0 run to take a 12-4 advantage. Blocks by Klein, Karle and Curry extended the lead to 10, 17-7, as a kill by Nori Thomas closed out the set, 25-14, for a 2-0 match lead.

In the third set, kills by Busa, Rox Wood and Scott put the Phoenix in front by six, 10-4, forcing an early NCCU timeout. Elon continued its dominance out of the break with a 12-2 run that was capped by a block from Wood and Alexa Pavlick for a 22-6 lead. Two kills by Mackenzie Taylor and another by Busa finished out the set, 25-9, and the match for the maroon and gold.

Elon leads the all-time series against NCCU, 21-5…This marks the third time in the last five meetings that the Phoenix has swept the Eagles…Elon has won the last 15 straight.
