High School Football Saturday Morning Rewind:Names, Numbers and Links coming out of Friday night’s games

We line up a few of those Friday night numbers and then hit the links for some of the games from last night….A couple of scores from outside our area that might be worth noting are South Pointe, S.C. 17, Mallard Creek 6…Matthews Butler 21, Hough 10…Richmond County 21, Southview 0…

Numbers from last night’s game…..Looking at yards, TD’s and more…

339:De’Shaun Taylor(High Point Christian Academy) with 339 total yards on 212 passing and 127 rushing with 3 rushing TD’s and 2 passing TD’s….
295:Hendon Hooker(Dudley HS) had 210 yards passing going 10-15 with 2 TD’s through the air and he ran for 85 yards and three touchdowns…
220:Jaren Rainey(Southwest Guilford HS) with 220 yards passing and three TD’s…
219:Eric Williams(Ragsdale HS) with 219 yards passing and 2 TD’s…
217:Gerald Simpson(Northeast Guilford HS) went 18-31 passing for 217 yards passing and 2 TD’S and his rushing totals are still under review…..
196:Javon Leake(Page HS) had 196 yards on the ground…
194:Dre Davis(High Point Christian Academy) with 194 yards receiving on 4 receptions for one TD…
183:Will Jones(Page HS) threw for 3 touchdowns, going 15-23 passing for 183 yards…
183:Peter Ingle(Bishop McGuinness) Ingle with 183 passing and that is down about 217 yards from what he usually goes for, but even in an off night, Ingle still threw for 2 TD’s and ran for 2 TD’s in a loss to South Stokes…Ben Babcock hauled in those two Ingle TD passes…
178:Ford Moser(Northern Guilford HS) with 178 yards on 7 receptions and a long of 95 yards and one TD for Northern Guilford vs. Reidsville…
121:John French(Ragsdale HS) with 121 yards receiving on 6 receptions for one TD…
118:Andrell Edwards(Southern Guilford HS) had 118 yards rushing and a Touchdown…
102:Ronald Polite:(Page HS) with 102 yards receiving on 11 catches for 2 TD’s…
64:Bryson Jumper:(Southwest Guilford HS) Jumper with just 64 yards rushing, but 4 big TD’s on the ground for the SWG Cowboys in their win at Southern Alamance…
3:Travis Steele(High Point Andrews HS) Steele scores three TD’s in Andrews first win of the season and although we don’t have his rushing totals, those 3 TD’s were very big for HP Andrews…
*****Just compare this kid Kingsley with Hendon Hooker, similar in some ways….
295 passing/57 rushing(352 Total):Kingsley Ifedi(Charlotte Vance) goes 20 of 32 passing for 295 yards and two TD touchdown passes and he runs for 57 yards and three scores on the ground…Kid Kingsley is from Vance but numbers sort of crazy that they are similar to those of Hooker and the kids is somewhat similar to Hooker in size at 6’4/217 and a bit heavier, but still similar…Wonder if we could see Vance in 4-A playoffs maybe vs. a Dudley or one of our local teams…Depends on school size for sure…

*****One more sort of interesting note coming in from many different outlets around the state:
After 44 years at the Fayetteville Observer, Earl Vaughan Jr.’s last day was Friday. He was and is a giant in North Carolina high school sports reporting. Spoke with a couple of guys that were from Fayetteville and they were at the Dudley-Pine Forest game on Friday night, and they said the Fayetteville Observer newspaper had been bought out and that with that move, Earl Vaughn Jr. decided to get out…..*****

  1. G. Simpson went 18-31 for 217 and 2TD’S and 9 carries for 62 yards. He also played defense fulltime and he is the punter.

  2. Gerald Simpson is a great player but those stats you have are wrong on the rushing part. I just went through the film and I spend 4-5 hours grading my inside linebackers and my stats include rushing yardage by each runner. The passing part is probably correct because I do not chart passing yardage. I have Gerald with 16 carries for -3 yards (43 positive and 46 negative). Remember that each time a QB drops and has to scramble he becomes a runner and if he keeps the ball he gets credit for the gains as well as the loses. My hat is off to the NE players and coaches. They did an outstanding job last week. This is a big rivalry game and they came out prepared and never gave up. There is no way they should be 1-4 but you have to play every game the way they played Friday night. The inability to do that falls on the players.
