College Men’s Golf Results – Guilford Eighth After Two Rounds of D3 Preview

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. – Guilford College’s men’s golf team slipped four spots into eighth place after shooting 311 in Monday’s second round of the NCAA Division III Preview Tournament. The Quakers share the eighth spot with neighbor Greensboro College (297-304-601). Guilford and Greensboro are two shots out of fourth place.

The event gives teams the chance to play the courses slated to host the 2017 NCAA Division III Men’s Golf Championships. Monday’s round was played on the par-72, 6,820-yard El Campeon Course at the Mission Inn Golf and Tennis Resort.

Huntingdon College carded the day’s low round (293) and opened an 18-stroke lead over the field’s remaining 17 teams. The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor moved into a share of second place with first-round leader Wittenberg University, which shot 312 Monday to drop into second.

After shooting 290 on the par-72, 6,900-yard Las Colinas Course in Sunday’s opening round, Guilford shot 311 Monday on the El Campeon track. Quakers’ junior Harrison Frye (High Point, N.C./High Point Central) posted the second-lowest score of the day with an even-par 72 that moved him up to 25th place in the 92-man field at 78-72-150. Rookie Zach Evens’ had Guilford’s second-best score (77) and enters Tuesday’s third and final round in a share of 42nd place at 76-77-153. Teammates Josh Hill (71-82-153) and Kell Graham (72-81-153) occupy the same spot. Senior Kendall Dunn’s (Greensboro, N.C./Vandalia Christian (UNC Pembroke) 81 counted for Guilford and dropped him from eighth place into a tie for 38th at 71-81-152.

Addison Lambeth carded a 72 Monday and climbed into a share of first place with opening-round co-leader Will Thrash (67-75-142). The Huntingdon teammates have a one-shot edge over Oglethorpe University’s Kyle Shealy (68-75-143).

Coach Justin Tereshko’s team, ranked 19th in the Bushnell Golfweek Division III Coaches’ Poll, concludes the 54-hole tourney with Tuesday’s final round.
