College Women’s Soccer Final – Guilford 9, John Wesley 1

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College’s Juliana Evans-Anfom and Dana Waskiewicz each tallied two goals a piece as the Quakers claimed a Wednesday afternoon victory over John Wesleyan University, 9-1. Guilford’s nine goals is the seventh-most all-time while Guilford’s seven first half goals are the most for the Quakers since 2005 when the Quakers beat Randolph-Macon Woman’s College, 8-1.

Waskiewicz scored twice in the first half for the Quakers, including the game’s first goal in the 11th minute thanks to a centering cross from Morgan Kremzar. Waskiewicz’s second goal of the half came in the 31st minute thanks to a throw-in into the box from Cheyenne Wright. Allison Van Voorhies quickly added to the total 1:19 later off a Morgan Wolfe corner kick to widen the lead, 6-0.

Juliana Evans-Anfom scored the game’s second goal in the 15th minute and notched an assist 4:52 later thanks to a through ball to Ana Fokas, Guilford’s third goal scorer. Samantha Bennett rounded out Guilford’s scoring in the final minute of the half off of a free kick where Bennett put the finishing touches on the ball at the goal line to lead Guilford to a 7-1 lead at the half.

Gabriella Silva booted a spot-on cross from Lauren Culler in the 62nd minute as the Quakers tallied two goals in the second half on their way to victory.

Evans-Anfom finished with two goals and one assist to lead the Quakers. Becca Banks added two assists off the bench.

The Quakers out-shot the Lions, 25-6, and held the edge on corner kicks, 9-2.

Cheynne Grim (2-1) made three saves in the first half for the Quakers while Maggie Albert played the second half and stopped one shot. John Wesley’s Harley Cline made six saves.

The Quakers (3-2) return to action Saturday, opening Old Dominion Athletic Conference play with a 2 p.m. contest at Hollins University.
