Friday Night Finish:Big Players step up in the Big Games and you saw that Tonight and we lost another former football player:Bruce Putnam(SEG) gone at age 51

We still have four Unbeaten teams with Dudley(6-0), Southwest Guilford(6-0) and Eastern Guilford(5-0) and Page is not too far behind those top-tier three, with the Pirates at (5-1)….

Big Players step up in Big Games right, and Hendon Hooker(Dudley HS), Jaren Rainey(Southwest Guilford), Javon Leake(Page) and Will Jones(Page) all came up with Big Games on Friday night…

Hooker with two TD passes and two TD runs, plus 300 total yards with 196 passing and 104 rushing, Rainey with three TD passes, Leake with two long TD runs and 241 yards rushing on 22 carries and Will Jones came up with 2 TD runs and 1 TD pass, plus one pick on defense….

The Big Players come up with Big Plays in the Big Games and the young men that we just mentioned, did that tonight…Eastern Guilford’s kids had to be doing their job tonight too, as the Wildcats crushed McMichael, 43-7…

I was at Jaren Rainey’s game and the SWG Cowboy threw for well over 100 yards and those three touchdowns and the junior QB had time to throw with the guys up front on that offensive line giving him the time he needed to make those passes work and we are talking about Noah Allen, Wesley Davis, Tyler Chambers, Nick Johnson and Elijah Adeloye…That Cowboy O-line was right on time and allowing Jaren Rainey to have the time he needed to throw the football on this Friday night…

Have not seen any numbers on the NWG Vikings from their win over Grimsley, but we are expecting NWG to have some key standouts from that victory at Jamieson Stadium this evening…

John Zellous and Thomas Young with the TD grabs for Dudley on Friday, while Ronald Polite hauled in the TD pass from Will Jones and Jaren’s TD balls went to Christian Jackson, Bryson Jumper and AJ Allen…

In the SEG-SWG game Coach Eric Rainey made a big call when he went for the first down on 4th and four from his own 27-yard line and then Southeast Guilford was called for roughing the kicker(Punter) when SWG was punting deep in their own territory with time running down and headed toward the end of the first half/second quarter….

Some big games tonight and plenty of big scores to go around with Western Alamance over Northern Guilford 55-14, Smith topped Burlington Cummings 44-7, Ledford rolled over Western Guilford 62-13, Northwest took their game at Grimsley 34-14, Scotland County took out Glenn, 51-22 and Bishop McGuinness stopped South Stokes in the Sauras’ tracks, 42-0….In a close one, HP Central eased past HP Andrews, 14-12….Southern Guilford, under first-year coach Earl Bates, moved to (4-2) on the year and this proving to be a very good start for the SG Storm….

After all of those wins we are still dealing with a loss today with the death of Bruce Putnam…Bruce is the former quarterback for the Southeast Guilford Falcons back in the day and his son Jordan Putnam was the Page Pirates’ top QB back in 2012 and did a very good job that year and Bruce leaves behind his wife Shannon, Jordan and another son, Cameron….

Bruce just 51 years old and we knew his father-in-law too, Mr. Pat Jordan, who loved his family and he left us about five years ago….

Bruce Putnam, a former Falcon, will be missed and it still hits you hard to see Bruce gone at just age 51….A lot of people in the Southeast Guilford/Forest Oaks and Pleasant Garden communities knew Bruce and I am sure they would join with us in saying RIP Bruce Putnam and our thoughts and prayers go out to his family….

Bruce Putnam, one of the good people you run into over the years and he will be missed by all who knew him and those that knew him well……
