Volleyball Splits To Open Conference Season, While Records Fall

MARYVILLE, Tn. – The Greensboro College volleyball team split a pair of USA South Athletic Conference matches Friday at Maryville College.
The Pride destroyed Wesleyan College, 3-0, before falling to the host Scots, 3-0.
In the match against Wesleyan to open the day, the Pride set a program record with 33 service aces and fewest point allowed in a three set match. The previous service ace record (25) was set in 2005 against Guilford College, while the points record was also set against Guilford in 2006.
Greensboro won by scores of 25-3, 25-5, 25-5.
Evan Sherer paced the Pride with nine kills, while Samantha Kirschner recorded seven kills. Haley Borher accounted for eight of the Pride’s 33 services aces, while Katie Clark and Parker Ann Powell combined for 13 aces. Clark also passed for a team-high 10 assists.
After breezing past the Wolves, the Pride fell to Maryville by scores of 32-30, 25-20, and 25-15.
Sherer once again led the Pride in kills with eight, while Brandy Johnson and Meredith Summers combined for 12 kills. Darrian Bolt tallied 17 assists. Tori Belcher paced the Greensboro defense with 16 digs.
“Today was up and down,” Head Coach Kaci Pike said. “We showed our potential against tough competition, however we know that we are capable of being more consistent.
“It will be important to rebound and have a strong day tomorrow.”
The Pride volleyball team will return to the court tomorrow in another USA South Athletic Conference quad-match at Salem College.
