• HPU returns to action next Saturday at the Asheville Cross Country Challenge

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The High Point University women’s cross country team put four runners in the top-8 to claim victory at the Greensboro XC Invitational Saturday afternoon at Hagan Stone Park.

The Panthers won the race with 34 points, ahead of North Carolina XC Club (72), Concord (86), Winston-Salem State (110) and Pfeiffer (124).

“I wanted to see if our team could execute a specific race plan, and we did for the most part,” head coach Remy Tamer said. “They held together as a pack. We have to learn to race together as a team and we did that today. I see where we are in terms of execution and getting the job done. From here on out, we just need to race and get fit with the hope of taking that momentum into the conference championship.”

Senior Cozette Collin led the way for the Purple & White, placing second out of 124 runners in a time of 19:36.70. It marked the second top-2 finish of her career with the Panthers.

After Collin, the Panthers packed up to take spots six through eight. Sophomore Keaton Case claimed the No. 6 position (20:14.00), while senior Natalia Ocasio placed seventh in 20:15.10. Freshman Zoe Geis continued her strong start to the season with an eighth place showing (20:22.30).

Freshman Kylie Hennessey placed 11th for the Purple & White (20:37.50) and fellow freshman Emily Boger was 14th (20:50.10).

Wrapping up the Panther contingent, freshman Charis Dinger returned from injury to finish 21st (21:32.00) and sophomore Kallie Baughman was 49th (23:45.60).

The Panthers now prepare for the Big South preview meet, the Asheville Cross Country Challenge, which will be held next Saturday (time TBD).
