Sendek’s Late Goal Lifts Pride Men Past Quakers in Home Opener

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Greensboro College’s men’s soccer team (4-3, 2-0 USA South) needed a late goal from Sisay Sendek Saturday to beat the Guilford College Quakers (5-4), 1-0.

The Pride created a few chances in the first half but could not capitalize. They went into the break with an 8-2 shot lead.

In the second half, Greensboro picked up its pressure and got closer to getting a goal to break the deadlock.

It took until the 81st minute for Sisay Sendek to get the Pride on the board. A cross from Warren Washington on the right side was flicked on by Miguel Parra, and then headed home by Sendek to give the Pride the victory.

Jaime Payamps picked up the shutout, while making three saves. Carlos Barragan led the team with six shots.

“It’s finally good to be playing home games, and pick up our first clean sheet and a home win,” said Head Coach Tony Falvino, “I think it’s essential for us to build off of the positives that we saw today; however, I think that we did not play to our standard. We are looking forward to Ferrum so we can get back to the level we should be playing at.”

The Pride will be back in action, at home, at 4 p.m. Tuesday against USA South opponent Ferrum. For more information on Greensboro College men’s soccer, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
