New News and Record Top Ten High School Football Poll with not much change but plenty of teams to watch

CLICK HERE for the new News and Record Top Ten High School Football Poll for this week with Dudley(6-0), Page(5-1) and Reidsville(6-0) in the top three spots and Southwest Guilford at team to watch in that #4 spot…Eastern Guilford at (6-0) in that #6 spot is another team to watch and how long can EG keep that winning streak going….Same question is out there for SWG at (6-0)…

Another team to keep an eye on is Southern Guilford, with the Storm already at (5-2) on the season and SG has a very good chance to finish at/be at (8-3) by the end of October…Challenge games for SG on the way later with Asheboro and Ledford, but if the Storm take care of their other business and then split with Asheboro and Ledford, they are (8-3) for 2016 and their regular season is done on October 28….

EG has to contend with the likes of Eastern Alamance and Western Alamance along the way, but EG has a very good chance of taking care of the rest of their Mid-State 3-A teams, but the Wildcats first order of business will be to win at Burlington Williams this Friday night….

Southwest Guilford will have their hands full with all the teams in the PTA 4-A Conference and it begins with Glenn at SWG for Homecoming this Friday night….Then they have to deal with NWG, HP Central, Ragsdale and East Forsyth….To come out of all of that with just one or two losses, will be a successful campaign….

Plenty of good football coming up over the next five weeks, as the teams make their runs through their various conferences….

Back up on the poll topic at the top of our conversation, The Top 10 is compiled by News and Record staff writers Joe Sirera and Spencer D. Turkin, with input from area coaches…..Joe Sirera has had a lot of good things to say about the Reidsville Rams and he has been right on the money, with his writings on Reidsville…

  1. Spencer Turkin and Joe Sirera’s article on the transfer situation illustrates blogging that was once considered journalism. Nevertheless, both will jump on the Panther bandwagon once Dudley goes farther in the playoffs than the majority of the teams in Guilford County.

    *Andy, you can delete whenever…

  2. The article was not jumping on Dudley, it was just showing what type of loopholes there are in the rules and if the rules are stated a certain way, you go with them…

I always thought you could not transfer for Athletic purposes under the new Guilford County guidelines, but if the bylaws/standards of saying you can transfer if the transfer involves moving to a brand new residence apply, then you can move and play ball the very same year and there is no way to deem that it is for Athletic purposes and no judgement call at all will come into play on this, it is concrete and you go with it…

A move is a move and the kids whose families move can play, that is how the rule works and you go with it…

It also goes back to the Eight Quarter days and Northern had been hit with that rule with their JV’s the year before with Coach Brian Thomas and the Nighthawks had to forfeit games and then Dudley gets hit with the same rule the very next year and Dudley has to pretty much give up the ghost, pretty much give up the hole season and all was lost and the problem had just occurred in a similar way one season earlier…

What was the county doing to insure that the same problem did not happen two straight seasons???

I guess not much of anything that would help…..

If the rules are now concrete you roll with them and I am sure all of the teams are on their P’s and Q’s these days….

If the News and Record decides to go heavy and hard with Dudley playoff coverage come playoff time, I would say that would be a good move….

Dudley, Page, Southwest Guilford and Eastern Guilford with all healthy look to be the teams with the best chance to keep moving in the playoffs…If NWG gets healthy again, they have a shot too…If Hennigan ever gets back to 100% this season, that fella is going to want to play for a long time, he will have that much energy built up….Southern Guilford might have a run in them for early in the playoffs, but for the most part it looks to be the teams above…

I don’t think it was the N&R’s intention at all to be calling anybody out with the article, it was intended to call out the rule and bring into focus how that rule works and how it can be used if you want to move into a new/another School District…

The question would come up, How can somebody go to two schools in the same season and play for two different schools in the same season and the article explained that…

I learned from the article because I was not aware you could move and change schools and play the same season, but obviously you can and the rules say you can and that is how it works…

I was was uninformed, because I thought you could not transfer for Athletic purposes but you can and so be it we have to move on from there and the games on the fields are the games that must be won, those are the game that count…

The battles off the field are for the School Board and the other county leaders and let them have at it and we need to stay in the corner of the coaches and the players….

We don’t have all the answers here, but sometimes we can add to solution and I hope what we are doing is not adding to the problem…

In the corner of the kids no matter what part town you live in….

A final thought make me feel it would be better if we call came together to improve and build up our schools and the communities that they serve….

It would be great for to be able to sit around and say maybe 25 years down, the road, “You know we had a Great School back in the day”…….

May not me on point, but just a few points to work with and look at…

  3. A good comment coming in from Crazy 3 Seconds and another good one to be thinking about and looking at today…..I will also head over to the Asheboro Courier-Tribune site and see what we can find out there, but here is the comment on the High Point Christian Academy-Randleman game from last Friday night from Crazy Three Seconds:

Has anyone seen or heard story of the last 3 seconds of HPCA and Randleman game? A Randleman parent was telling me about it today! Wow- HPCA scores to go ahead with 3 seconds left. Penalty on extra point puts them back to 25 to kick off.

Their kicker whiffed the football on kickoff and went out of bounds around the 30. Randleman throws Hail Mary and HPCA called for interference. Randleman untimed down and throws another Hail Mary and it is caught in end zone.

That’s a lot to go on in 3 seconds. Apparently the refs had about a 5-minute conference on whether or not to call it pass interference . Like to see the video if anyone has it. Sounds pretty crazy!

  4. from the Staff Reports at the Asheboro Courier-Tribune:

Randleman High School scored two TDs in the final 1:35, the second on a 33-yard pass from Tanner McGee to Tyson Green with no time left on the clock as the Tigers rallied for a thrilling 13-10 victory over the High Point Christian Academy Cougars at Charles R. Gregory Stadium.

A touchdown by HPCA gave the Cougars a 13-10 lead with just 8.9 seconds left, but a penalty on the PAT against HPCA moved the kickoff back and the kick then went out of bounds and Randleman took over at the HPCA 43. A pass play resulted in a pass interference penalty against the defense and because the clock had expired, the Tigers were given one untimed down from the HPCA 33.

They took advantage of it as McGee threw toward the end zone and Green out-jumped a number of defenders and caught the ball on the 1-yard line before falling back into the end for the winning points.
