BRANCH, Ga. – Levi Grogan drained a 35-foot eagle putt on the 18th hole to earn a share of medalist honors and give the Greensboro College men’s golf team a one-stroke victory at the Royal Lakes/ Oglethorpe Fall Invitational Tuesday.

After four Pride players had already entered the clubhouse following the round, Grogan found himself with an opportunity to bring his team to at least a tie on the final hole.

Grogan hit an outstanding tee shot up the right center of the par-5 18th fairway, leaving himself about 207 yards from the green.

Following his tee shot, Grogan placed his 4-iron approach shot on the green, 35 yards left of the pin to set up the eagle opportunity before sinking it to wrap up the victory.

“I zoned in on the putt with the help of Coach Fennie,” Grogan said. “When I approached the ball I knew all I had to do was birdie to tie LaGrange, but I was able to make it to secure the win for the team.

“We really pulled together as a team and motivated each other the whole tournament to lead wire-to wire. I could not have had the performance that I did individually without coach’s help.”

Grogan finished tied with LaGrange’s Logan Lanier for medalist honors at 6-under-par.

Pride freshman Grant Powell also continued his hot start to the season. Powell completed Tuesday’s final round at 2-under-par, placing him in sixth place at 3-under-par for the tournament.

Luke Grogan (t-8, -1), Scott Campbell (t-32, +5), and Corey Stamper (t-88, +19) competed for Greensboro.

Sean O’Connor participated as an individual for the Pride, finishing in a 47th place tie at 8-over-par.

“It was rollercoaster ride, but a fun few days,” Head Coach Dirk Fennie said. “Despite struggling at times, we were in control most of the tournament.

“It was an extremely exciting finish and I am happy that we came away with the win. This was probably one of the most exciting tournaments I have ever been a part of as a coach.”

The Pride men will return to action Oct. 10 at the Donald Ross Intercollegiate, hosted by Appalachian State University. For more information on Greensboro College men’s golf, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
