STUDENTS FROM PASQUOTANK & CHAPEL HILL EARN PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK AWARDS

CHAPEL HILL— Gina Kim of Chapel Hill High School and Marcus Cowell of Pasquotank High School have been named recipients of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week awards, powered by Time Warner Cable SportsChannel.

Each week two athletes in North Carolina High School Athletic Association competition are selected for this award from nominations received from media and school administrators.

Cowell, a senior running back, rushed for 231 yards and four touchdowns as the Panthers nipped rival Currituck 34-33 last Friday. Cowell is a four-year varsity starter and is two yards shy of the 1,000-yard rushing mark through six games. His Panthers are enjoying one of their best seasons in recent memory as they have started off 5-1.

Kim, a junior golfer at Chapel Hill, participated in the prestigious Junior Ryder Cup international team competition held at Interlachen Country Club in Edina, Minnesota. She was one of six junior girls to participate in the event from the United States. The format of the tournament resembled the Ryder Cup competition played by PGA Tour professionals at Hazeltine Country Club, and the outcome resembled it as well. Kim won two of her three matches, contributing two points to the US 15.5-8.5 victory.

TWC SportsChannel typically announces the winners of the awards during its Sports Night show and will recognize the winners throughout the week. Weekly recipients will also be recognized via Twitter and Facebook. The deadline for nominations is each Monday at 5 p.m through the online form that can be found here.
