College Men’s Soccer Final – #11 Washington and Lee 5, Guilford 0

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Washington and Lee University’s Andrew Kim tallied three points as Guilford College dropped a Wednesday evening Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) contest to Washington and Lee, 5-0.

Both teams dueled in the first ten minutes of the period as the Quakers (5-6, 0-2 ODAC) produced two offensive opportunities to counter Washington and Lee’s (9-1, 4-0 ODAC) offensive attempts. The Generals, ranked 11th in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), held the possession advantage for the majority of the remainder of the period and took an 11-1 shot advantage into halftime with both sides tied, 0-0.

Washington and Lee quickly came to life 30 seconds into the second half when Geinda Smith took advantage of a Guilford turnover inside the box and fired a central shot into the net to put the Generals on the board as part of a two-goal rally in two minutes. Kim tallied the first of his three points on the evening off of a corner kick as Dylan Stroud headed the ball into the net from the far post in the 72nd minute to put the Generals ahead, 3-0. Kim earned his third point off another corner kick, playing the ball directly off the corner kick for the game’s final goal in the 87th minute.

Washington and Lee out-shot Guilford, 32-3, and held an 11-0 edge in corner kicks.

Eric Hayes made six saves in net for the Quakers. Washington and Lee’s Connor Hayward stopped one shot.

The Quakers enjoy a weekend off before returning to action Tuesday, hosting Emory & Henry College for a 6 p.m. ODAC contest inside Appenzeller Field at Armfield Athletic Center.
