College Women’s Soccer Final – #10 Lynchburg 8, Guilford 0

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Lynchburg College’s Samantha Bagherpour scored twice and added an assist as Guilford College dropped a rainy and breezy Friday night Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) contest to Lynchburg, 8-0. Lynchburg is ranked tenth in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Division III Top-25.

Bagherpour fired off the game’s first two goals in the fifth minute from 20 yards out off of a blocked shot and 6:12 later when she scored directly off of a corner kick. The Hornets rallied for three more goals in the half in a rally started by Caitlin Mertens in the 22nd minute. Lynchburg (8-0-3, 3-0-2 ODAC) rallied for two goals in the middle of the half in a 2:53 span.

Bagherpour earned her fifth point of the night on the second half’s first goal in the 49th minute when she fed Kelley Smith on a corner kick. Kennedy Jakubek rounded out the Hornets’ scoring in the 56th minute when she dribbled through the defense and fired a shot from the top of the box.

Lynchburg out-shot the Quakers, 21-2, and held the edge on corner kicks, 8-1.

Tess Frelick earned the start and claimed the win, playing the first 32:15 of the contest. Delia Losapio relieved her in the first half and made one save while Caitlin Dorsch finished the final 15:51 of the contest.

Cheyenne Grim made five saves in net for the Quakers in the first half. Maggie Albert play the second half in goal for Guilford.

The Quakers (5-4, 2-2 ODAC) return to action Wednesday, traveling to Roanoke College for a 4:30 p.m. ODAC contest.
