College Men’s Golf Results – Guilford in Ninth Place After First Round of Golfweek Invite

MIRAMAR BEACH, Fla. – Senior Ty Palmer shot a one-over-par 72 to help Guilford College’s golf team to a share of ninth place in Sunday’s opening round of the Golfweek D3 Fall Invitational. The Quakers shot 295 and enter Monday’s second round 10 strokes behind the leader, the University of Texas –Tyler.

Guilford and 18 other schools are competing at par-71, 6,717-yard Raven Golf Club at the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort.

Palmer made four of his round’s five birdies in the first nine holes and sits in 15th place among 95 participants. Illinois Wesleyan University’s Conner O’Neil blistered the course with a five-under 66 to take a one-stroke edge over Texas-Tyler’s D.J. Godoy, Oglethorpe University’s Kyle Shealy and LaGrange College’s Osborn Theam atop the individual leaderboard.

The Quakers’ got a 73 from sophomore Josh Hill, a 74 from junior Harrison Frye and a 76 from rookie Kell Graham to account for the team’s 295. Guilford’s 11-over total shares the ninth spot with Berry College and is three shots behind Illinois Wesleyan, LaGrange and Methodist University, who are tied for sixth.

Coach Justin Tereshko’s Quakers, ranked eighth in the current Bushnell/Golfweek Division III Coaches’ Poll, tee off at 8:00 a.m. in Monday’s second round. The 54-hole event concludes Tuesday.
