Northeastern Blanks Elon Women’s Soccer, 3-0, in Boston

BROOKLINE, Mass. – The Elon University women’s soccer fell to the red-hot Northeastern Huskies, 3-0, on a rainy Sunday afternoon, Oct. 9, at Parsons Field. The leader-leading Huskies scored all three goals in the second half after the match was scoreless following the first 45 minutes.

The Phoenix falls to 7-7-1 overall and 2-3 in CAA play with the loss. Northeastern won its fifth straight match to improve to 10-5-1 overall and 5-1 in league play.

“In the first half we were very disciplined, very good, and we were very close to putting away some dangerous chances,” said head coach Chris Neal. “Our team was incredibly disciplined and mature in the first half. However, to start the second half, we simply failed to execute our game plan and Northeastern punished us.”

HIGHLIGHTS
Northeastern held most of possession in the first 30 minutes, but the Phoenix created some dangerous chances. After the Huskies mustered three shots in the first 20 minutes, Taylor Paradoski registered Elon’s first shot of the match in the 21st minute and Nathalie Nidetch made the save.

The Huskies would muster two more chances in the half and the maroon and gold had three chances in the final 12 minutes of the first half. Paradoski had a shot blocked in the 34th minute Kara DeGuisto had a shot sail high after a free kick in the 37th minute. Tori Baliatico had Elon’s final chance of the half, but her shot in the 43rd minute was high.

Northeastern took the lead in the second half with two goals in a span of three minutes. Mackenzie Dowd’s shot from the left side hit off the inside of the left post for a goal in the 50th minute. Then, Kayla Cappuzzo scored a rocket from 20-yards that went off the bottom of the crossbar.

Hannah Rosenblatt sealed the victory for Northeastern in the 85th minute. She scored on a header off of Nicole Wilkins’ corner kick to seal NU’s 3-0 victory.
