College Women’s Soccer Final – Roanoke 5, Guilford 0

SALEM, Va. – Roanoke College’s Sierra Lynn-Johnson scored two goals as Guilford College dropped a Wednesday afternoon Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) contest to Roanoke, 5-0.

Lynn-Johnson scored the game’s first goal for Roanoke in the ninth minute after taking a right-side feed from Emily Whitaker. The Quakers (5-5, 2-3 ODAC) held the Maroons (5-5-3, 3-2 ODAC) without a shot for the next 21 minutes and just one shot in 28 minutes after the goal. Guilford kept the Maroons’ away from the net as Roanoke fired two shots in a nine-second span during the 37th minute, the Maroons’ remaining shots of the period. Roanoke only held a 5-1 shot advantage after the first half.

Whitaker broke the ice in the 55th minute of the second half, scoring her third point when she received a Courtney Yoke feed to extend the lead. 37 seconds later, Lynn-Johnson headed the ball into the net off a Jillian Barard headed the ball into the net for her second goal of the contest. Barnard scored a goal of her own in the 63rd minute thanks to a Meagan Ryan pass as the Maroons secured the victory on a Ashley Scoyni goal in the 78th minute.

The Maroons earned a 15-1 shot advantage over the Quakers and held a 7-3 edge on corner kicks.

Cheyenne Grim (4-4) earned the start and made three saves in net for the Quakers. Maggie Albert played the second half, stopping two shots. Chris Martin and Caroline Liebel combined for the shut-out for Roanoke, with Liebel making a save in a 32:52 relief effort for Martin to finish the contest.

The Quakers continue their road stretch Saturday, traveling to Virginia Wesleyan College for a 1 p.m. ODAC contest.
