Elon Men’s Golf Starts Fast at Elon Phoenix Invitational

BURLINGTON, N.C. – The Elon University men’s golf team started strong on day one of the second-annual Elon Phoenix Invitational today, Oct. 17, at Alamance Country Club, as four players sit in the top 25 as individuals.

As a team, Elon is in second place at 3-under par (283-282–565) and trails Gardner-Webb by seven shots with 18 holes to play.

“I’m very proud of the way the guys played today,” Elon coach Don Hill said. “Many of the guys set personal best rounds, highlighted by Jake Leavitt’s performance. It’s also exciting to seePhilip Loeb back on the golf course competing and healthy.

“It’s a tightly-bunched leaderboard and I hope we seize the opportunity and play the type of golf we’re capable of playing. We look forward to competing tomorrow.”

HIGHLIGHTS
Jake Leavitt shot a career-low round of 66 in the second round. Paired with his first-round mark of 67, Leavitt is tied for second place as an individual at 9-under par.

Philip Loeb is also in the top 10 after day one, as the sophomore is tied for ninth at 4-under par (70-68–138).

Charlie May and Jared Mactas both carded rounds of 70 and 72 in the first two rounds and are tied for 25th at even par.

Next for Elon is William Harwood, who is tied for 31st. Dex Blank is 88th after two rounds of play.

William Ronnholm, William Knibbs, Steven Segrist and Robert Seebold each competed for the Phoenix as individuals.

Ronnholm is tied for 40th while Knibbs and Segrist are tied for 70th. Seebold was forced to withdrawal during the second round.
