Elon’s Jake Leavitt Named CAA Men’s Golfer of the Week

RICHMOND, Va. – After claiming a share of the individual title at the Elon Phoenix Invitational this week, Elon University men’s golf junior Jake Leavitt earned the Colonial Athletic Association Men’s Golfer of the Week honor today, Oct. 19, as announced by the league office.

Leavitt earned a share of the individual title at the Elon Phoenix Invitational, Oct. 17-18, the first individual title of his career. He closed with a 1-under par round of 70 on the final day. The junior carded rounds of 67 and 66 in the first two rounds and finished tied with two other players in first place at 10-under par. His second round 66 is a 18-hole career-low.

The native of Woodstock, Md. shared the individual title with George Mason’s Eric Edwards and North Carolina’s Jose Montano at 10-under par. Leavitt’s previous best finish was a tie for fifth at the Maryland Terrapin Invitational in the 2014-15 season.

Elon’s third-place finish marked its best team result since a second-place finish at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate in March.

The Phoenix closes out the fall portion of its schedule, Oct. 31-Nov. 1, at the Hummingbird Invitational, hosted by Western Carolina in Cashiers, N.C.
