GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College women’s basketball team was picked atop the USA South Athletic Conference East Division rankings, the conference announced Wednesday.

The Pride, under the direction of eighth-year Head Coach Randy Tuggle, received 44 total points, including three first-place votes, while Ferrum College also received three first-place votes

The Pride women will look to improve on a 14-11 overall mark from last season, while finish fourth in USA South standings at 10-5.

Greensboro welcomes back ten players from last season, including seniors Marla Crawford, Courtney Pearsall, and Monica Smalls. The Pride’s three seniors averaged a combined 20 points, 17 rebounds, 8 assists, and 4 steals per game last season.

The Pride also welcomes 13 newcomers this season.

“I am very excited about being picked to win the east division of our conference by our peers,” Head Coach Randy Tuggle said. “Being picked to finish first and actually finishing first is two totally different things as we have a lot of work to do, but I feel like we will have a very good team.

“We will be tested early with games against the likes of East Carolina University, UNC-Greensboro, and Lenior-Rhyne, while also playing the top tier of the ODAC schools like of Guilford, Lynchburg, and Randolph-Macon.

The Pride women will open its 2016-2017 slate at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 11 when they travel to East Carolina University for an exhibition matchup with the Pirates. For more information on Greensboro College women’s basketball, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
