College Women’s Soccer Final – Eastern Mennonite 1, Guilford 0

HARRISONBURG, Va. – Lauren Rittenhouse’s 29th-minute goal proved to be the game winner for Eastern Mennonite University as Guilford College dropped a Saturday evening Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) contest to Eastern Mennonite, 1-0.

Eastern Mennonite held the possession advantage for the first 15 minutes, firing four of the game’s first five shots and drawing two corner kicks as the Quakers’ defense held. The Royals broke through in the 29th minutes when Hannah Walker fired a shot, which led to Rittenhouse putting away the rebound to claim any early lead. The Quakers turned the possession advantage in their favor for the final 13 minutes of the period as Guilford amassed eight of the final nine shots of the period.

Guilford continued to put pressure on the Royals to start out the second half with four shots in the first 11 minutes. After a ten-minute drought of shots, Eastern Mennonite produced a two-shot rally. Defenses held on both ends for the final 17 minutes as each side only produced one shot a piece to close out the game as the Royals held on to victory.

Both sides were even on shots, 14-14, after the Royals held an 11-9 advantage after the first half. The Royals held a narrow 4-3 edge in corner kicks, earning the only corner kick in the second half.

Cheynne Grim made five saves in net for the Quakers before being replaced by Becca Banks for the final 25 minutes of the contest. Emily Young stopped eight shots for Eastern Mennonite.

The Quakers return home Wednesday, facing Emory & Henry College for a 6 p.m. ODAC contest inside Appenzeller Field at Armfield Athletic Center.
