College Volleyball Finals – Guilford 3, Bridgewater 1; Averett 3, Guilford 0

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – Guilford College’s volleyball team split two matches Saturday at Bridgewater College. The Quakers (11-12, 5-4 ODAC) defeated the host Eagles, 3-1, in the opener. Averett University defeated Guilford, 3-0, in the Quakers second match of the day.

Guilford rallied for a 21-25, 25-21, 25-23, 25-19 victory in the opener. Christian Ritter, who has played the libero position for most of the year, moved into the hitting rotation and delivered a match- and career-high 15 kills on .236 hitting. She also added 16 digs for her first double-double of the year. Jessica Sheek chipped in 10 kills and a career-high 10 blocks. Setter Tina Eucker added five kills, 40 assists and four blocks. The Quakers totaled 14 team blocks.

Abby Mills had 15 kills to lead Bridgewater. Carleigh Studtmann chipped in 10 kills and three block assists. Jenna Hamra added 40 assists and 10 digs. Rachel Kinsey had a match-best 19 digs, plus seven kills.

Hannah Shields put away a match-best 20 kills on .528 hitting in Averett’s 25-19, 25-13, 25-10 victory in Guilford’s second match. She helped the Cougars hit .333 as a team, as compared to Guilford’s .000 team hitting percentage. Brianna Williams had seven kills and Madison Dade added five. Keenan Marks paced Averett with 31 assists and also had nine digs and four service aces.

Sheek and Casey Davis had five kills apiece for Guilford. Ritter picked up 14 digs and Eucker had 18 assists.
