CAMDEN, S.C. – The High Point University men’s golf team produced their best round of the weekend shooting 302 in the Camden Collegiate Invitational on Sunday.
Freshman Brendan MacDougall opened the day shooting one-over on the back nine before finishing with a 73 (+3), the best round for HPU on the weekend. As a team, High Point’s 302 was its best 18-hole score as freshman Alec Weary and junior Emile Menard joined MacDougall in saving their best for last.
“Always a disappointing week when you don’t play as well as you know that you can, but the good news is we turn around and tee it up next week for our final event of the fall,” head coach Brady Gregor said. “We know our process is working from our early success this fall, so we are going to stick to it with a strong showing at Sapphire Valley next week.”
Menard struggled early, but finished the weekend shooting two-under in his final ten holes. He ended the weekend tied for 42nd (77, 77, 74, +18) while his fellow Canadian, MacDougall, placed in a tie for 34th (77, 75, 73, +15).
Like Menard, Weary finished the weekend on a positive note converting two birdies over the final seven holes to shoot an even (35) on the front nine after starting the day on the back of the course. The Bluffton, S.C. native finished the weekend in a tie for 56th (77, 78, 76, +21).
Just above Weary on the leaderboard, sophomore Christian Casingal finished tied for 48th and one stroke behind Menard (74, 76, 79, +19). Rounding out the lineup, freshman RJ Bartolomucci tied for 69th (82, 78, 79, +29) on the weekend.
The Panthers wrap up the fall schedule at the Hummingbird Intercollegiate hosted by Western Carolina at the Sapphire Valley Country Club on Oct. 31-Nov. 1.
