REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. – High Point University women’s golf freshman Tonrak Tasaso fired a final round 76 on a difficult course to lead the Panthers Sunday at the UD Lady Blue Hen Invitational.

Tasaso’s 76 included a trio of birdies and helped her shoot 11 spots up the leaderboard to finish t-36th.

With Tasaso’s solid final round, the Panthers posted their best score of the weekend (316) and completed a 54-hole total of 969 (333-320-316).

HPU placed eighth at the event overall. Harvard claimed the tournament title (920), followed by host Delaware (930) and Penn (932).

“I’m proud of the way we improved throughout the tournament but we are obviously not happy with how we performed,” head coach Alexis Bennett said. “It was a great experience for the team to see a different style of golf but we will get back to work this week to sharpen multiple elements before The Preview.”

Junior Cayla Smith placed 17th overall to pace the Panthers and earn her first top-20 of the season. After opening with a 78, Smith shot rounds of 80 in her second and third 18s. She made three birdies Sunday and played the par 5s at one-under par. Smith capitalized on the par 5s all weekend long, ranking t-3rd in the field in par-5 scoring (E). She also finished t-2nd in total birdies (7).

Senior Danielle Fuss placed t-26th overall and wrapped up her tournament with a final round 82. Fuss notched a two day total of 242 (78-82-82) and also played well on the longer holes, finishing t-8th in par-5 scoring (+2).
