3A Girls’ Golf Recap: Chapel Hill’s Kim and Rockingham County go back-to-back

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. – Gina Kim cruised to her second straight 3A Women’s Golf individual championship at the North Carolina High School Athletic Association State Championships at Longleaf Golf and Country Club. Her 3-under par, 141 score was nine shots better than her nearest competitor.
After a 3-under par round one, Kim cruised to an even-par 72 on her way to the victory. Katharina Floyd of Northwood finished in a tie for second with Kayla Smith from Williams, both shooting a 6-over par score of 150.

Rockingham County secured their second straight team championship behind Hailey Joy’s 7-over par 151 two day total. She shot even-par on day two of the tournament and finished in fourth overall. Olivia John added a 21-over par 165 behind a day one total of 80 and a day two round of 85.

The Cougars outpaced second place Williams by 25 shots on the tournament in the team competition. Williams players combined for a 96-over par 528 score. Adding to Smith’s second place effort was Katherine Cox who shot a combined 41-over par 185 across the two day tournament.

Williams held off third place Northern Guilford by just five shots as the Nighthawks posted a 532 combined total. Team scores are compiled based on the three lowest individual scores from a five player team.
