ELON, N.C. – Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Matthew Jegier of the Elon University men’s soccer team was named an Academic All-District selection by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) as announced on Thursday afternoon, Oct. 27. Jegier was selected to the first team for District 3.

A business major with a 3.76 cumulative GPA, Jegier has had a fantastic season for the Phoenix in goal. The Charlotte, N.C., native has played all but nine minutes between the posts this season and is leading the Colonial Athletic Association in goals against average at 0.74 and is second overall in save percentage (.776) and total shutouts (six). In just under two seasons as a starter, Jegier has 15 career clean sheets, which is already tied for fourth all-time in school history.

Jegier’s spot on district first team makes him eligible to be named to the Academic All-American squad, to be announced later this season. The Academic All-District teams recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom and are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. To be eligible for the team, student-athletes must maintain a cumulative grade point average above 3.3 and have participated in at least 50 percent of the team’s contests.

Jegier and the Phoenix will be back on the pitch this Saturday, Oct. 29, to host CAA-leader Hofstra at Rudd Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
