College Women’s Soccer Final – Randolph-Macon 1, Guilford 0

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Kasey Booth’s goal with 6:31 left in the second overtime period gave Randolph-Macon College a 1-0 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) women’s soccer win at Guilford College Saturday.

With the win, the Yellow Jackets (6-7-3, 5-4-1 ODAC) clinched the number-seven seed at next week’s ODAC Tournament and earn a first-round contest with 10th-seeded Guilford Monday (10/31). The Quakers dropped to 6-8-1 (3-6-1 ODAC).
After over 103 minutes of scoreless soccer, Randolph-Macon’s Gabby Nelson got the ball straightaway from the goal from about 25 yards out. Unmarked, Booth made a nice run down the right side and took a pass from Nelson and banged home the game winner for her second goal of the season.

The Yellow Jackets controlled play for most of the second half and ramped up its pressure in the overtime. Randolph-Macon outshot Guilford, 5-1, in the first extra period with Nelson and Mary Virginia Kelley forcing big saves by Quakers’ keeper Cheyenne Grim in the 99th minute.

Guilford’s best scoring chance came midway through the first half when a Lauren Culler free kick from 23 yards out glanced off the crossbar and out of play.

Randolph-Macon held a 14-8 edge in shots and had 10 of the game’s 12 corner kicks. Christina Newman and Lindsay Zachman shared the shutout in goal, with Zachman playing the final 58:29 to earn the win. She made three of the team’s five saves. Guilford’s Grim had four stops, three after halftime.
