Elon Men’s Golf Phoenix Completes First Round of Hummingbird Intercollegiate

SAPPHIRE, N.C. – Four Phoenix players are in the top 20 individually and the Elon University men’s golf team is tied for third as a team after the first round of the Hummingbird Intercollegiate on Monday, Oct. 31, at the Country Club of Sapphire Valley.

Elon’s team total of 292 has the Phoenix tied for third place, just two shots back of second. Host Western Carolina holds the lead at 6-under par 278.

HIGHLIGHTS
Jake Leavitt, who shared the individual title at the Phoenix Invitational on Oct. 18, opened with a round of 72 and is tied for 11th.

Philip Loeb and William Harwood each carded rounds of 73 and are tied for 15th with 18 holes to play.

Jared Mactas sank five birdies in his opening round and is tied for 19th after posting a 74, while Charlie May is tied for 35th.

William Knibbs and Dex Blank competed as individuals for the Phoenix. Through 18 holes, Knibbs is tied for 24th and Blank is tied for 49th.

UP NEXT
The second and final round of the Hummingbird Intercollegiate will be played on Tuesday, Nov. 1, at the Country Club of Sapphire Valley. Tee times begin at 9:30 a.m.
