MARYVILLE, Tn. – The Greensboro College men’s soccer team saw its 2016 season come to an end Friday with a loss to second-seeded North Carolina Wesleyan, 1-0, in the semifinal round of the USA South Athletic Conference Tournament.

The Bishops (14-5) struck early in the first half with a goal in the 6th minute, following a Greensboro (12-6) foul just outside the 18-yard box.

Following the Wesleyan goal, Carlos Barragan and Andrew Moebius each hit the post but was unable to find the back of the net, sending the Pride into halftime trailing by the one-goal margin.

Greensboro then continued to apply pressure in the second half but was unable to find the equalizer, falling by the narrow margin.

“We put ourselves behind the eight-ball early and was not able to completely recover,” Head Coach Tony Falvino said. “Give full credit to N.C. Wesleyan as they were able to capitalize on our mistakes.

“It is a bitter sweet day for our program as we say goodbye to seniors Drew Clukey, Scott Faytol, and Marlow, who have put a lot of work into our program over the past four seasons.”

Cole Watkins, Ryan Mule, and Carlos Barragan each had one shot on goal. Jamie Payamps took the loss in goal for Greensboro despite recording two saves.
