CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Elon University women’s tennis team completed the fall season at the Kitty Harrison Invitational, Friday-Sunday, Nov. 4-6, at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
“The team played very well in our final tournament of the fall,” said head coach Elizabeth Anderson. “They have improved a lot throughout the course of the season and made great strides in their individual goals. It was also great having Olivia Lucas back on the court. We are looking forward to competing again in January.”
HIGHLIGHTS
Kirsten Ward had a solid tournament for the Phoenix, which included singles victories against Charlotte and Davidson. She also paired up with Suzanne Zenoni in doubles and picked up an 8-7 (7-1) victory against Vazquez and Kane of North Carolina on Friday.
Erica Braschi also picked up two singles victories over the weekend, defeating Martin of Charlotte, 7-6 (8-6), 6-3, and Scholvnick of Davidson, 6-2, 7-5. She also picked up two doubles wins on Friday. First, she paired with Alex Koniaev and won, 8-7 (8-6), against Wagland and Koprcina of Texas. Olivia Lucas made her return and paired up with Braschi on Friday to defeated Perry and Groener of William & Mary, 8-6, in doubles. Lucas also earned a singles victory on Sunday with a 6-0, 6-0 clean sweep of Shell of Davidson.
In addition, Alex Koniaev and Zenoni also won two singles matches. Konaiev defeated Davidson players Stein (6-2, 6-3) and Armas (7-5, 6-4) on Friday and Sunday respectively. Zenoni defeated Hofbauer of East Carolina, 6-7, 6-0, 10-8, on Saturday and Feaster of Davidson, 7-6 (7-3), 3-6, 10-5, on Sunday.
Maria Paraja also earned two singles wins with a 6-1, 6-3 win against Charlotte’s Imparato and a 6-1, 6-1 win versus Castro of East Carolina. Natalia Janowicz won a singles match on Friday, 6-2, 6-3, against Smith of Charlotte.
UP NEXT
The Kitty Harrison Invitational completes the fall portion of the season. The Phoenix will return to the courts in January to begin the spring season. The spring schedule will be announced on a later date.
