Elon Volleyball Drops Road Match at UNCW

WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Elon volleyball team closed out the road portion of its regular-season schedule tonight, Nov. 7, but was not able to claim a win, falling 3-0 (16-25, 26-28, 19-25) at UNCW in Hanover Hall.

Both Ebony Scott and Kam Terry led the Phoenix (17-14, 3-11) with a match-high 11 kills each. Sydel Curry posted her 14th double-double of the season after a match-high 37 assists and 12 digs. On defense, Maddie Jaudon tallied a match-high 15 digs, while Ally Karle led the maroon and gold with three total blocks.

The Seahawks (16-11, 6-9) saw 10 blocks from both Sydney Brock and Nicole Lott, while Brock also posted a match-high five blocks. Alyssa Desjardins finished with a double-double after 20 assists and 12 digs as Maddy Kline also recorded 12 digs.

How it Happened
Back-to-back kills by Scott helped the Phoenix to a 6-5 edge in the first set as two more kills by the outside hitter helped Elon keep that advantage, 11-10. The Seahawks managed six straight to take the lead, 16-11, and pulled away to take a 25-16 win.

Kills from Curry and Terry and a solo block by Alexa Pavlick put the maroon and gold in front in the second set, 10-5. A kill by Scott and block by Pavlick and Sydney Busa kept the Phoenix lead at three, 14-11, before UNCW evened the score at 14-all. The set saw five more ties by the time the score reached 23-all and the Seahawks claimed the first set point, 24-23. Elon answered with a kill by Scott to help take its first set point, 25-24. A kill by Terry made it 26-25 in favor of the Phoenix before the Seahawks claimed the final three points for a 28-26 win.

Trailing by four in the third set, 9-5, kills by Kayla Agae, Karle and Terry and a block by Curry closed the gap to two, 12-10. UNCW grabbed a six-point advantage, 17-11, before two kills from Scott and a block and kill by Karle help cut the deficit to two once again, 20-18. However, the Seahawks were able to take five of the last six points for a 25-19 final.

The Phoenix returns home to close out the regular season next weekend with two matches in Alumni Gym. Elon hosts Hofstra on Friday, Nov. 11, at 6 p.m. before its final scheduled match against Northeastern on Sunday, Nov. 13, at 2 p.m. The match on Sunday against the Huskies will mark Senior Day for the program’s four seniors –Agae, Karle, Scott and Morgan Maner.
