The Cowboys of Southwest Guilford hit the road to open up the 2016-2017 campaign. Tonight the Cowboys went down to square off against the Falcons of Southeast Guilford with the boy’s game being played in the earlier time slot. Southwest has dominated this match-up in recent years with an average margin of victory of over 33 points. This is a new season however, and each team are looking to start off strong. The game opened up as a back-and-forth affair. The teams traded baskets and sloppy play. The Cowboys held Aislinn 15–13 lead with just over 2 minutes to play in the opening frame. A quick 7–0 spurt to close out the frame had the Cowboys up 22–13. The second quarter had Southwest score the first four points in the opening minute. But a decisive run by the hosts and trimmed the lead until they eventually completed the fight back to take a 33-32 lead with 1:30 to go in the half. In a blink a 4–0 spurt gave the Cowboys the lead again and closed out the half at 40–35. After regrouping and re-emphasizing the game plan, Southwest blitzed the Falcons by scoring 36 points in the third frame pulling away to make it 76–47 after the third quarter. The visiting Cowboys then held on for the convincing 98- 62 victory to open up the season. The Falcons were led by J. James with 16. Southwest was led by Kameron Langley with 24, 10 assists, and 8 rebounds. Close behind was Kobe Langley with 20 and 7 rebounds.
