Former Western Guilford Soccer Coach and Bishop McGuinness Girls Soccer Coach has passed away at age 71 due to heart attack:George Kennedy served the community

George Kennedy was the first-ever men’s soccer coach at Wake Forest University and he used to work a ton of those All-Star Soccer Camps that Ray Alley used to hold each Summer at Guilford College….Those local camps were an offshoot and the brainchild of Ray Alley, while Alley and Kennedy were working very closely together on the local soccer level…Ray Alley coached at Guilford College and at High Point and he was a former writer for the News and Record….Both Alley and Kennedy coached men’s and women’s soccer and George Kennedy became one of the most respected high school soccer coaches in the state of North Carolina when he took over and ran the Western Guilford Hornets’ soccer program for 25 years, coaching the boys in the Fall and the girls in the Spring….George Kennedy was instrumental in getting the soccer fields built at Western Guilford and nobody knew the value of the George Kennedy to Western Guilford soccer than did Ed O’Keefe…Ed’s son E.J., now the men’s coach at High Point University, played for George Kennedy while E.J. was a high school student at Western Guilford and Ed’s daughter Claire played in the girl’s program at Western Guilford, which was led by George Kennedy…George Kennedy was the man when it came to Western Guilford soccer and I feel certain the soccer fields at Western Guilford will be named for George Kennedy, if they haven’t been already….Quite an impact by Kennedy and a huge loss to Triad soccer community and the loss is hitting very hard this week over at Bishop McGuinness High School, in Kernersville….
