Greensboro, NC – –
This evening the Ragsdale Tigers made the short trip to take on the Southern Guilford Storm. Ragsdale was coming off a win over SE Guilford in their season opener last Thursday night. For the Storm, tonight would be their regular season opener.

The beginning of this game would see the home-standing Storm take control right from the start. Southern’s defensive effort in the opening half forced Ragsdale into numerous early turnovers. The Storm were led offensively in the first half by Garren Dearman slashing to the basket and scoring or getting to the free throw line, and also Tyquan McFadden controlling the backboards. Going into the halftime break, the Storm lead by 10 points, by the score of 24-14. Coming out of the locker room, the visiting Tigers made a concentrated effort to attack more offensively and to be more aggressive. Ragsdale’s defensive pressure amped up in the third period, getting numerous deflections and steals which led to easy transition points and more effective half-court offense for the Tigers. At the end of the third period, the halftime deficit was completely gone as the score was tied at 32 a piece. The fourth frame was what everyone bought their ticket to see. High flying action on both ends, the lead changing hands numerous times; it was a fun and very competitive fourth period. Ragsdale Sophomore Tre Goode hit back-to-back 3-pointers to take the Tigers from down 1 point to up 5 points in a matter of 30 seconds on the clock. At that point, the Tigers were up 51-46 and would never trail again. The Storm closed the gap to one point at 51-50, but Jarious Drayton and Nick Coleman added free throws to take the Tigers’ lead to 53-50. The Storm had one final possession where they got off a good look at the top of the key to tie the game but it would not fall. Ragsdale completed its comeback with the victory on the road tonight by the final score of 53-50.

Ragsdale placed three players in double figure scoring on the night; Sophomores Tre Goode (12 points) and Brycen Thomas (11 points) and Senior Raekwon Blocker (10 points). Garren Dearman led the Storm with a game-high 21 points.
