High School Basketball Tonight:Providence Day at Greensboro Day boys and Northwest Guilford at Northern Guilford girls highlight action

Got some key early season games tonight with the Providence Day School boys, last year’s NCISAA 3-A Champs at the Greensboro Day School to take on the Bengal boys at 6:30 and Greensboro Day is off to a (7-0) start to the season and coming off of a 59-54 win over Southwest Guilford, back on Saturday night….Providence(5-1) with names like Devon Dotson and Trey Wertz and GDS has the Big Four, with J.P. Moorman, Jordan Perkins, Will Dillard and John Newman Jr…..Wesleyan Christian Academy of High Point defeated Providence by four points(80-76) in early November and in the recent MaxPreps Top 25 Poll, they had WES at #6 and GDS at #7 in the nation..Big game coming up there at GDS tonight…

Another big game for tonight will be the Northwest Guilford girls at Northern Guilford, with a start time set for 6:00pm….NWG at (1-0) and Northern at (2-0), for 2016….Both teams were runners-up in last year’s NCHSAA Finals and both return solid lineups….Northern has all five starters back, led by 6’5 center Elissa Cunane, while NWG counters with 6’4 center, Elizabeth Kitley….The Cunane-Kitley battle in the middle tonight at Northern Guilford and both teams have excellent supporting casts and I am doing these by memory, but NG goes Cunane, who is one of the top centers/post players in the state, if not the Eastern United States, plus you have Sammi Furlough, Kelli Lomax, Mercedes Wampler and another scorer/team leader in point guard, Kassie Robakiewicz….Northern just goes 10 deep total and all Nighthawks will be expected to carry their load…NWG will counter with Kitley and she is joined by Cayla King, who can score a number of different ways and you have senior Bria Gibbs, who along with Kitley, is very strong on the boards….Lindsay Gauldin and the new backcourt point guard from Northwest Middle will round out the Vikings’ starters….Should make for a very good game tonight at Northern Guilford….
