Elon MBB’s Eddy Nominated for Allstate NABC Good Works Team

INDIANAPOLIS – Elon University men’s basketball senior Luke Eddy has been nominated for the 2017 Allstate Good Works Team®, the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced on Wednesday.

Eddy, a senior captain and a two-time CAA Academic All-Team honoree, has been involved in numerous community service activities throughout his entire career as a Phoenix.

One of the community service works includes Village Tutoring, where he and his teammates assist local children with classroom activities such as reading, writing and basic math. The Charleston, W. Va., native has also been involved in with the local Special Olympics, helping to administer regional games and encourage participants. Eddy has also been involved in CHAMPS clinic, an after school sports clinic for local children in Alamance County, teaching students the fundamentals of basketball and competition.

He also joined his teammates with several other community outreach events on campus, such as Elon’s annual ELONTHON, which is a dance marathon that raises money for pediatric cancer research. Other activities include Elon Athletics Thank-a-Thon, and the Student-Athletic Advisory Committee Blood Drive.

Eddy has also been involved with local elementary schools at Turrentine and Smith, joining the team making appearances at the school’s pep rallies and assemblies to speak to the importance of education and physical fitness.

The Allstate NABC and WBCA Good Works Teams® recognizes players at all levels of college basketball whose charitable involvement and altruistic acts stand out amongst all other student-athletes participating in the sport. This esteemed award honors an outstanding group of student-athletes who represent the sport’s finest in the areas of community service and leadership among their peers.

A record 181 NABC nominees were submitted by college sports information directors and basketball coaches across the country nominated players who exhibit exceptional leadership skills and an unwavering commitment to volunteerism.

Two special voting panels, headlined by former Duke University basketball athlete, two-time NCAA® champion and seven-time NBA All-Star Grant Hill, and former Notre Dame basketball star, two-time Nancy Lieberman Award winner and current WNBA player Skylar Diggins, will select 10-member teams from both the NABC and WBCA, comprised of five student-athletes from the NCAA Division I level and five student-athletes from Divisions II, III and the NAIA. The final roster of 20 award recipients will be unveiled in February.

Members of the Allstate NABC Good Works Team® will be invited by Allstate, an official corporate partner of the NCAA, to the 2017 NABC Convention and 2017 NCAA Men’s Final Four® in Phoenix, where they will participate in a community service project benefitting the city. Members of the Allstate WBCA Good Works Team® will be recognized during the 2017 WBCA Convention and at the 2017 NCAA Women’s Final Four® in Dallas, and will also participate in a volunteer project in the local community.
