BOYS GAME
The Cowboys hosted the visiting Whirlies of Grimsley High School tonight at the Ranch. The Cowboys were looking to build on their bounce back victory over Northeast on Tuesday night, while the Whirlies were looking to break out of an 0-4 funk to start the season. Last season’s game went in favor of the Cowboys in convincing fashion, 79-60 over in Greensboro.

After watching the Cowgirls dismantle the Whirlies beforehand, the Cowboys were motivated to come out strong. A perfectly executed tip on the jump ball lead to a 3 point play the old fashion way giving the Cowboys a 3-0 lead only 4 seconds into the game. A rebound and transition basket for Southwest made it 5-0. The Whirlies tallied a made 3 pointer at the 5:53 mark. Southwest would put the clamps down defensively going on an 18-0 run before Grimsley got on the board just before the close of the first quarter, which made it 23-5.

The hosting Cowboys didn’t relent control as they went on a 10-0 to open the second quarter putting the game at 33-5. It wasn’t until the 5:05 mark that the Whirlies got a basket making it 33-7. Grimsley still fought hard to close out the opening half at 48-13.

A monstrous put back slam by Kobe Langley ignited the crowd in the opening seconds of the second half. Another Cowboy basket made it 52-13 before the Whirlies managed a made free throw at the 6:40 mark. It wasn’t much longer until Southwest got the margin across the 40 point threshold, but a made basket just before the buzzer made the score 62-24 at the end of the third quarter.

The Cowboy bench showed heart playing in the final stanza as they held their own as they closed out the convincing 78-38 victory.

Grimsley was led by Chris Fuller with 11 points. Southwest was led by Brandon Lamberth (13 Pts, 2 Rebs, 2 Stls), Kameron Langley (12, 4 Asts, 3 Stls, 3 Rebs), Dezmond Woods (11, 6 Rebs, 3 Stls), and Kobe Langley (10, 7 Stls, 3 Asts, 2 Rebs). The Cowboys hit the road next week to face off against West Forsyth on Tuesday night.
