HIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point University women’s basketball team fell 81-47 to Stetson in the Millis Center on Saturday afternoon.

Behind two second-quarter 3-pointers by junior Kat Harris, the Panthers (1-6) took a 25-19 lead with 8:22 until the break. However, the Hatters (8-1) closed the game on a 62-22 run to pick up the road win.

“Yes, we came out strong, but I think we still have a lot of maturing to do and we need to find chemistry and cohesion,” head coach DeUnna Hendrix said. “I take the blame because I can’t figure out how to get us ready to play a full 40 minutes. Right now our offense is dictating our defense, so when we don’t make shots we don’t defend. We need to find a way to make our defensive intensity translate to offensive opportunities.”

Harris posted 19 points on the afternoon drilling four of her seven attempts from beyond the arc. Likewise, the Charlotte, N.C. native led the team with three assists and two steals.

After coming off the bench, freshman Camryn Brown tallied nine points and two assists in the contest. Meanwhile, sophomore Emma Bockrath chipped in with five points and three rebounds.

On the inside, sophomore Shea Morgan registered five points and five boards while freshman Olivia VanSlooten tied for the team lead with five rebounds of her own.

In the first quarter, Morgan knocked down a jumper at the 5:47 mark to give the Panthers a 10-6 edge. However, the Hatters answered with an 11-0 run to build a 17-10 advantage with 3:04 left in the quarter.

Then, Morgan and Brown hit buckets before sophomore Taylor McGlashan connected on two free throws to pull HPU to within one (17-16, 1:09). But Stetson hit the final basket of the quarter to enter the second frame with a 19-16 lead.

Harris made sure that lead was short-lived hitting two three-pointers before Bockrath got three points the old-fashion way to give HPU a 25-19 lead. But the Hatters answered again with a 16-0 run to grab control.

From there, Stetson maintained control finishing the game by outscoring the Panthers 62-22 over the final 27 minutes to earn an 81-47 victory.

The Purple & White will be back in action on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Davidson.
