High School Football Friday Night Finish:”Get that man on the Ground!!!”

“Get that man on the Ground!!!”…..That was the key for the Dudley Panthers on Friday night…They just had to get the opposing quarterback, Chris Reynolds, on the ground and begin to put pressure on the Davie County QB and that was the Dudley Panthers started doing about mid-way through the third quarter and it paid dividends and helped Dudley get the road win in Mocksville, 54-30, on Friday night…

“Get that man on the Ground!!!” and that is what Awstyn Williams, Dudley’s strong defensive lineman did, three straight times and this was coming after Dudley LB Patrick Conner had picked off Reynolds…

Dudley’s Williams put Reynolds on the ground three consecutive downs and as Reynolds went down, “down went Davie”(County)….Williams deserves a Gold Star for his helmet and give Dudley QB Hendon Hooker a handful of those Gold Stars too….Hooker with 433 total yards on Friday night and in the first part of the 54-30 victory by the Panthers at DC, the Panthers and Hooker couldn’t get anything right…

Loose footballs on fumbles, penalties and more penalties and Dudley was down 30-22 and then the Panthers got right and tightened up their playbook and and from that point on, Dudley went on to out-score Davie, 32-0….32-0 was the Dudley run that led to the 54-30 win…

Hooker with 433 yards, including 2 TD passes, 3 TD runs and six Two-point conversion passes…Six two-point conversion passes, that is a load and how about the emergence of Nigel Fitzgerald for Dudley, as a key receiving threat??? Nigel Fitzgerald was looking like Larry Fitzgerald out there for Dudley on Friday night….Two TD grabs for Fitzgerald and a one-handed two-point conversion pass snag, that looked like a pass that could not be caught, but on Friday night, Fitzgerald made it happen…

Going back to the core of the calls, the core to the apple started to erode when Awstyn Williams got those three consecutive sacks of Davie QB Chris Reynolds and the pick/interception by Patrick Conner, was like watching football on a canvas, where they are detailing and highlighting a fine work of art…

Hooker, Williams, Conner, Fitzgerald, Zellous, Perkins, Rush, Young…These are the names of just a few of the young men that got the Dudley Panthers going to Charlotte next Friday night, to face the Charlotte Catholic Cougars…

Quite a comeback by Dudley, down 14-0 early and then still down 30-22 in the second half, before the Panthers went on that 32-0 run that put them on Highway 85 heading south, next Friday afternoon….Hope the Panthers can get themselves a nice chartered bus lined up for that trip down to Charlotte…

The Dudley Panthers going to Charlotte and Charlotte(Vance) is coming here to Greensboro next Friday to face the Page Pirates…A playoff run by the Page QB Will Jones with 5 TD passes and 1 TD run on Friday night in the Pirates win over West Forsyth….Jones to Ronald Polite for three TD’s, plus Will hooked up with Assad Alston and Anthony Rodriguez for TD’s….Will Jones has been on fire the past two weeks and when Kingsley Ifedi and Charlotte Vance pull into town and arrive at Marion Kirby Stadium next Friday night, Will Jones must again become like Bert Jones(and be sure to go look him up) with Will Jones now needing to impose his Will for a Pirate win, as Page goes for a NCHSAA 4-AA West Regional Title next Friday at ‘The Kirb’……Or the ‘Krib’, take your pick, but be sure to pick the Pirates and the Panthers and the Wildcats of Eastern Guilford…

Three Guilford County teams still left/remaining in the State Football playoffs and all three have a legitimate chance/opportunity to bring a State Title back home to Guilford County….I still remember back in 2011 when Northern Guilford and Page won State Titles on back-to-back nights, and it was on Friday and Saturday and there is nothing like winning a State Title, at N.C. State, in Raleigh…

Eastern Guilford has a chance to get to the 3-AA Final at BB&T Field in Winston-Salem and the ‘Cats are now just one away from making that trip down I-40 West, to Winston…Tight game on Friday night with Western Alamance at Eastern with the game very close at 14-10, EG and later it was EG just up 21-17 over Western…Big night for the flying Wildcat, Isaiah Finerty….Young Mr. Finerty had himself quite a night with two TD receptions and he nearly had one more, when he caught a pass and took to the WA one-yard line….Joe Sirera said Finerty was a player to watch from Eastern Guilford going into Friday night’s Round Three game…Steve Huffman has the word on the EG-WA game at the N&R on-line and Bryant Barr, Dominique Graves, Spencer Clapp, Finerty and more ‘Cats came out ready to play on Friday night, at Tommy Grayson Stadium….

The Southern Guilford Storm fall on Friday night to Rocky Mount and SG closes out (11-3) in 2016….Strong performance by SG Storm first-year head coach Earl Bates and he has been named an honorable mention Coach of the Year candidate by several local publications….Good job Coach Bates and you have taken two different teams, SG and Morehead, deep into the playoffs(Round Three) over the past two seasons….

More coming with The Rewind on Saturday morning….

  1. Funny what people remember I recall HP Andrews and Dudley winning state titles back to back at chapel hill and NC State in 2013.Funny what we remember or I guess want to remember.I guess it boils down to preference huh?Two inner-city schools defying the odds and sometimes the refs to win it all imagine that.

  2. Good pickup on your part…Andrews on Friday night with Lamar Raynard, Marquell Cartwright and company and then Dudley in the pouring down rain in Raleigh on that Saturday afternoon…We had that Dudley game on radio and that was with Emanuel Moseley, Chris Register and a strong Dudley team…

Sometimes the cobwebs have to be cleared out…Thanks for bringing it back….

  3. I agree. Without this site few would remember schools like HP Andrew’s and what they have done. Most schools in this area are 4A or at least 3A in Guilford Co. Most people don’t pay attention to a 2A school. Andy and this site are not the ones that you need to go after. Maybe you should ask the local papers where their is coverage stands. Which I don’t know since they are usually too far behind the results for everyday games.

  4. Simply a reminder of all the schools accomplishments you are pathetic for being offended that I have the nerve to acknowledge all Guilford county accomplishments. You don’t change here in the South you yahoos brought up race cause that’s all you backwoods folks think about.
