Elon’s Agu Earns NSCAA All-Region Men’s Soccer Second Team Nod

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Junior Elijah Agu of the Elon University men’s soccer team was selected to the All-Midwest Region second team as announced by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) on Tuesday, Dec. 6. The honor is the program’s first All-Region accolade since 2013.

A native of Cary, N.C., this is the third postseason recognition for Agu after his breakout 2016 campaign. After coming into the season with only one career goal in his first two seasons, the striker scored a team-best 11 goals, the most for the Phoenix since 2013, led the Colonial Athletic Association in goals per match at 0.65 and had four multi-goal single-game performances. He notched Elon’s first hat trick since 2005 with his three-score contest versus St. Bonaventure on Sept. 2 and also had four game-winners during the year while accounting for 23 total points.

Agu would later become the only Phoenix player on the All-CAA first team. He also was a unanimous first team selection on the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) 2016 Men’s Soccer University Division All-State team last week.
