Game Report on Southwest Guilford-West Forsyth Boys Basketball:Brandon Lamberth playing like it is his Berthday and Christian Martin startin’ to realize his part in the ‘Cowboy Machine’

Southwest Guilford 70, West Forsyth 66

Southwest Guilford hit the road to face off against the Titans of West Forsyth. The Titans head into tonight’s tilt only having played once, a convincing victory over Glenn, while the Cowboys are coming off their second straight dominating win.

Last season these two squads fought an intense battle that ended with the Cowboys edging out the Titans. This year’s match-up was billed to be just as intense.

The Titans came out strong in front of their home crowd going up 5-0 in the opening 2 minutes of play. A Cowboy bucket got them on the board, but another Titan response made it 7-2. From there the visiting squad dug in and began a 9-0 run to go up 11-7 at the 4:40 thanks to forcing the tempo and causing the Titans to turn the ball over. Southwest slowly edged further ahead until the frame closed at 24-15.

The second quarter was mostly controlled by the Cowboys as they really began to pull ahead in the later half of the stanza and took a 45-29 lead headed into the break.

The Titans wouldn’t go away quietly as it was the hosts that began to force turnovers and get easy baskets and chipped away at the margin until the third stanza ended at 57-51.

The final quarter was the intense battle that everyone came to see as the Titans battled and scrapped all the way back to tie the ball game up at 64-64 at the 2:56 mark. The teams traded sloppy possessions and mental errors until the 1:50 mark when the Cowboys drove and got an open 3 pointer by Cooper Cunningham which gave the Cowboys the lead again for the night at 67-64. A couple more miscues by both sides until a Titans layup brought it to 67-66 with 1:10 to play. Southwest was able to spread the floor and kill some time, but then only hit 1 freebie to make it 68-66 with 48 seconds to go. Southwest pressured the Titans into a timeout with 39 seconds left, and following the timeout the pressure of the Cowboys forced a jump-ball giving the possession back to the Cowboys. Another made free-throw got it to 69-66. Southwest forced the issue still and got a steal which sealed the victory on the ensuing free throws at 70-66.

The Titans weren’t able to execute with 3.1 left to play and the margin stayed there for the final horn at 70-66 as the Cowboys handed West Forsyth their first loss on the year.

The Titans were led by KJ Henry with 23. The Cowboys were led by Brandon Lamberth with 25, and 8 Rebounds, Christian Martin with 11 and 4 Rebounds, and Kameron Langley 10 and 8 Rebounds.
