Game Report on Southwest Guilford-Dudley Boys Basketball:Cowboys run past Panthers with Keyshaun Langley and Cooper Cunningham leading the charge

Southwest Guilford 84, Dudley 37

The Cowboys played hosts to the visiting Panthers of Dudley High School tonight here at the Ranch. The Cowboys came into tonight’s battle after just fighting off the Titans of West Forsyth on the road, and hope that being back in the familiar confines of their home gym will help keep the team’s momentum going.

Last year’s battle between these two schools was dominated by the Cowboys, and the hosts were looking for a repeat performance.

The Cowboys jumped on the board first, but the Panthers responded on the ensuing possession. A Cooper Cunningham 3 pointer gave Southwest the lead for good on the night at 5-2 by the 6:50 mark. Dudley came down and got another basket following a miscue by the Cowboys getting the game as close as it would be for the rest of the way at 5-4. Another Cunningham 3 pointer brought it to 8-4 and the flood gates opened as the Cowboys began to roll. The Panthers couldn’t keep pace as it was 17-4. It was at the 3:37 mark that the Panthers finally tallied another basket to make it 17-6. Another 10-0 run by the Cowboys ballooned the lead, until a made free-throw by the Panthers stopped the drought, but that was all for the visitors as Southwest ended the frame on another quick 6-0 spurt taking the opening frame 33-7.

The Cowboys opened the second quarter with 5 points in the opening 45 seconds making it 38-7. From there the stanza went back and forth as the defense on both sides of the ball wasn’t sharp at all. The Cowboys lead hovered in the low 30’s, until the first half settled at 58-28.

The Panthers came out and scored the opening basket of the second half. It was to be their only points of the frame as the rest of the third quarter was a total domination on both sides of the floor by Southwest. The pressuring Cowboys wouldn’t allow the ball past half court for the majority of the frame. At the 4:30 mark it was 70-30. The clock started running as quickly as the Cowboys and the frame closed at 79-30.

The fourth quarter was over in a blink as Southwest came out on top 84-37.

The Panthers were led by Tim Boulware with 11. Southwest was led by Keyshaun Langley with 16 of his 23 points coming in the opening frame. He also had 5 Rebounds, 3 Asts, and 3 Stls. Cooper Cunningham chipped in with 12 points and 4 Rebounds.

Southwest improves to 5-1 on the young season.

  1. Hey “Uneven”
    “Dudley will dominate in basketball”
    And “Southwest basketball Lol”

  2. My question is how does and athlete play football for one school and then play basketball for another school in the same season. Does Dudley get different treatment than the rest of the schools in the county.
