PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. — The Wyndham Championship in Greensboro, N.C., was honored by the PGA TOUR at the TOUR’s Tournament Meetings on Dec 7. For the second-consecutive year, the Wyndham Championship earned the award for Most Fan-Friendly Event during the 2016 tournament at Sedgefield Country Club. The tournament has earned at least one “Best Of” award each of the last five years.

“On behalf of the PGA TOUR, I am pleased to congratulate the Wyndham Championship for the special recognition it has received,” said Andy Pazder, PGA TOUR chief tournaments and competitions officer. “The tournament staff should be extremely proud of its hard work and for being recognized as the best among its peers on the TOUR.”

The Most Fan-Friendly Event award recognizes the tournament that offers the best fan experience, from ticket package options and accessibility, to food, amenities and the overall onsite special activities and events.

Sponsored by Wyndham Worldwide, one of the world’s largest hospitality companies, the Wyndham Championship operates under the message “Welcome to the Wyndham. You’ve earned this.® ” The tournament aims to make the week a vacation for all guests providing ticket, dining and transportation options for all budgets and offering services like comfortable seating, misting stations, charging stations and covered grandstands.

The tournament features fun and entertainment for every kind of fan. Coming off the Most Fan-Friendly Event award in 2015, the tournament added the Sunbrella Sun Deck, an elevated fan complex with concessions, shaded seating and the #WyndhamChamp Social Gallery, as well as Midtown Mash-Up, featuring regional food trucks and games. Fan-favorites returned including the Sunbrella Comfort Zone, two Tito’s Vodka Lounges, the BB&T Fan Pavilion, a Military Outpost off No. 10 fairway, and Margaritaville at The Wyndham. Also new in 2016, families enjoyed the Kids Adventure Zone, which included bungee jumping, rock climbing, face painting and performances by PBS Kids Host Mr. Steve.

The stars off the course rivaled those inside the ropes as the 2016 edition featured appearances by NASCAR’s Kevin Harvick, two-time Olympic gold medalist Mia Hamm, country music superstar Eric Church and singer, songwriter and businessman Jimmy Buffett, who gave a surprise performance at Margaritaville.

“On behalf of our friends and partners at Wyndham Worldwide, we are honored to be recognized by the PGA TOUR again this year,” tournament director Mark Brazil said. “After winning this award last year, we didn’t want to be satisfied with what we had so we came back with several great new fan venues this year to continue our tournament’s evolution. It also helped having people like Jimmy Buffett, Mia Hamm, Eric Church and Kevin Harvick a part of tournament week. We appreciate this award and thank Wyndham Worldwide and BB&T for their commitment to making our event one of the best on the PGA TOUR.”

The 2017 Wyndham Championship, won this year by Si Woo Kim, will be held August 14-20, 2017 at Sedgefield Country Club.
