Five From Elon Volleyball Selected for NCCSIA All-State Teams

ELON, N.C. – Five members of the Elon University volleyball team were selected to the 2016 North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) All-State University Division Volleyball teams as announced by the association on Tuesday, Dec. 6.

The Phoenix saw seniors Ally Karle (middle blocker) and Ebony Scott (right side/outside hitter) along with redshirt junior Sydel Curry (setter) and sophomore Kam Terry (outside hitter) receving first team laurels. Junior Sydney Busa rounded out the Elon All-State selections with a second team spot at outside hitter.

Karle led the Phoenix in total blocks with 120 and was second overall in the Colonial Athletic Association in that category. She had 10 total blocks against Gardner-Webb and entered the program’s top-five career list in total blocks versus Hofstra on Nov. 11, and closed out her career with 390. The Flanders, N.J., native was also twice named the CAA Defensive Player of the Week twice this season.

Scott was third on the team in total kills this season with 276 and averaged 2.24 kills per set. She had a season-high 22 kills at CAA finialist Delaware and also notched another 20 kill effort versus league champion James Madison. Overall, the Powhatan, Va., native had 12 double-digit kill performances this season and was named to the Elon Phoenix Classic All-Tournament team and its MVP.

Curry led the CAA in total assists (1,170) and assists per set (10.35) this season while also adding 102 kills and 285 digs to her stat line. The Charlotte, N.C., native had 15 double-doubles on the season and had a career-best 62 assists versus Delaware on Oct. 1. She was named the CAA Co-Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 31, and selected to the Tussle in the Triad and the Elon Phoenix Classic All Tournament teams.

Terry led the Phoenix in total kills with 378 and averaged 3.10 kills per set. She ranked in the top-five in the CAA in kills and also points per set (3.46). The Marengo, Ohio, native had a career-best 25 kills on Sept. 6, at Davidson and added another 20-kill performance versus High Point on Sept. 3. Overall she had 22 double-digit kill matches and Charlotte Invitational and Bulldog Invitational All-Tournament teams.

Busa was a third team All-CAA selection in 2016 after finishing second on the squad in total kills with 305 while averaging 2.82 kills per set. The Leesburg, Va., native had 17 double-digit kill performances during the season and also tallied 11 double-doubles. Busa added 293 total digs to her stat line, averaging 2.71 digs per set which was third on the team. Busa was also named to the CAA All-Academic Team for the second straight season.
