Game Report on Northwest Guilford-Calvary Day School Boys Basketball:Davis, Turner, Funderburg, Spicer, Rakes and Hampton all make the ‘Watch List’

NORTHWEST GUILFORD 81, CALVARY DAY SCHOOL 47
GAME NOTES:
The Cougars of Calvary Baptist Day School entered the Roger Nelson Gymnasium with thoughts of dominating the jungle as their namesake suggests. During warmups, they were literally foaming at the mouth ready to feast on the Vikings. Meanwhile the Vikings, working up a nice lather themselves during lay-up lines, envisioned feasting on medium-rare cougar meat. Man vs. animal was the theme for tonight’s match-up.

The Cougars jumped out to a 14-11 at the end of the first quarter. Northwest had a slight advantage at the half 30-26. It was quite evident in the third quarter the mighty Vikings refused to let the Cougars claw their way back into the ballgame. With sheer dominance and determination reminiscent of killing an ant with a sledgehammer, the Vikings raced to 56-39. A continuation of dominating defense ultimately finished off the Cougars in decisive fashion 81-47.

Reggie Davis led the Vikings with an impressive 21 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 steals while David Funderburg added 14 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 blocks. Tre Turner played a great all-around game as he finished with 12 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists, and 3 steals. Floor general, Jalen Spicer, controlled the flow of the game with another double-double of 10 points and 12 assists to go along with 5 rebounds and 4 steals. Northwest also got a nice contribution from Matt Rakes with 9 points, 3 assists, and 3 steals while Christian Hampton added 8 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 steals

Calvary was led by Olukemi Boko and Jackson Gammers who finished with 11 and 10 points respectively.
