CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (Dec. 18, 2016) – The North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) and UnitedHealthcare sponsored a canned food drive at the 2016 NCHSAA Football State Championships last weekend, raising over 2,500 pounds of food for Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest NC and the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina.

Schools were encouraged to bring donations to the entry gate for their State Championship site, with the school that collected the most bins of food during its games declared the champion and winner of $500 at each game site. The champions for the two games played at Kenan Stadium were the West Montgomery Warriors. Reidsville High School was named the champion for the three games played at BB&T Field in Winston-Salem. For the three games played at Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh, Cape Fear High School brought home the title with eight bins donated.

NCHSAA Commissioner Que Tucker said, “We are very proud of the contributions our members and fans were able to make during the Championship Drive food drive this weekend. This is just another example of NCHSAA member schools going above and beyond to serve their communities and our state.”
