Game Report on Southwest Guilford-Wesleyan Christian Academy Boys Basketball:Trojans claim 2016 Sheetz Title with big games from Hoard, Steere, Wiggins and Thompson

The Sheetz Holiday Classic Title game featured the hosting Cowboys of Southwest Guilford against the Trojans of Wesleyan Christian Academy. These two heavy weights came to battle it out for the championship. Wesleyan earned their birth in the title game by defeating Southern Guilford followed by High Point Christian Academy. The Cowboys are in tonight’s title clash thanks to dominating wins over Westchester Country Day and Lexington High School.

In front of an extremely packed house, the Trojans jumped all over the Cowboys going up 8-0 by the 4:40 mark. Southwest was uncharacteristically sloppy with the ball and shot the ball poorly. A quick 6-0 spurt by Southwest cut the margin to 8-6. The teams traded baskets a few possessions, until a 4-0 spurt by the Trojans closed out the opening stanza with Wesleyan up 17-11.

In the second frame the Trojans began to slowly expand the lead. The margin got to as large as 11 as their seemed to be a lid on the hoop for the Cowboys as several jump shots rimmed out. Southwest kept fighting and the half time tally was 38-30.

The third quarter was when the Trojans started to pull ahead a little more as they won the quarter taking advantage of the ice cold and disjointed play of the hosting Cowboys and the frame ended at 57-43.

The final frame of this dog fight was intense as the Cowboys started to force more turnovers. The struggle on the offensive end still continued however and Southwest wasn’t turning those into points as they typically do. The lead was trimmed down to 63-56 at the 4:40 mark, but despite causing turnovers, the Cowboys just couldn’t find a rhythm on the offensive side of the ball. The Trojans made their free-throws in the last half of the quarter, and the lid was still on the basket for Southwest as they fall to Wesleyan Christian Academy 84-71.

Wesleyan was led by Tournament MVP Jaylen Hoard with 31 points. Southwest was led by Keyshaun Langley with (27, 3 Asts, 2 Stls, Reb), Kameron Langley with (11, 7 Rebs, 3 Asts, Stl), and Kobe Langley with (10, 5 Asts, 3 Stls, 2 Rebs).
