Elon Women’s Tennis Phoenix Blanks South Carolina State in Greensboro

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Elon University women’s tennis team earned its third straight victory to remain undefeated on Saturday, Jan. 20, shutting out South Carolina State, 7-0, at the Starmount Country Club in Greensboro.

FINAL RESULTS

Olivia Lucas had a strong outing for the Phoenix going 2-0 overall with decisive singles and doubles victories. Elon improves to 3-0 overall with the win and South Carolina State falls to 0-1 to start their season.

HIGHLIGHTS
The Phoenix picked up wins on courts one and two in doubles action, highlighted by Olivia Lucas and Erica Braschi’s 6-0 win on court two. Maria Paraja and Natalia Janowicz clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 victory on the top court to put the Phoenix in front 1-0.

Lucas started things off in singles action with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 4 to surge the Phoenix ahead 2-0 in the match. Paraja finished just after with a 6-3, 6-3 victory to put the maroon and gold in position to clinch.

Braschi then clinched an Elon victory downing Oleksandra Filippova, 6-2, 6-4, on the top court. Both Suzanne Zenoni and Natalia completed the sweep of South Carolina State with wins on courts two and six respectively.

The Phoenix returns to action on Sunday, Jan. 22, at reigning CAA Champion William & Mary. The match is scheduled for 1 p.m. start at the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center.
