O’Grady’s Personal-Best Opens Elon Women’s Track & Field at Darius Dixon Invitational

LYNCHBURG, Va. – For the second straight meet, senior Briana O’Grady set a new personal-record in the weight throw as the Elon University women’s track and field team opened its first day at the Darius Dixon Invitational on Friday evening, Jan. 27, inside the Liberty University Indoor Track Complex.

RESULTS

O’Grady tossed a distance of 51’ 5.75” (15.69m) in the weight throw and finished ninth overall in the event. The South Kingstown, R.I., native broke her previous personal-best heave of 50’ 10.25” (15.51m) that she set just last Saturday, Jan. 21, at the Wake Forest Invitational.

Elon had just three athletes compete on the first day of the meet, with all of them in the weight throw. Junior Bryanna Hames and rookie Skylar Barthelmes also threw with Hames finishing with a mark of 42’ 11” (13.08m) and Barthelmes had a toss of 37’ 4.50” (11.39m).

The rest of the Phoenix will compete tomorrow, Jan. 28, for the second and final day of the meet with events starting at 9:30 a.m.
