from up at Northeast Guilford HS:
Northern Guilford boys 56, Northeast Guilford 52….Should have a Box Score/Game Report coming up on this one…
Northern Guilford girls 59, Northeast Guilford 45
NG girls(19-1/13-0)…NEG(16-4/10-3)
End of 1st Q:NG 11, NEG 10,,,Halftime:NG 25, NEG 19…End of 3rd Q:NG 44, NEG 29…Final:NG 59, NEG 45…
Some keys to the game were:
1)NG withstood the NEG runs…NEG made a run to close within one point at the end of the first quarter on a half court end-of-the-quarter buzzer-beater by the Rams’ Nichelle Jeffries…NG withstood a second half run by the Rams that cut a 15-point lead to six early in the 4th quarter and then the Nighthawks just pulled away and left NEG behind, at the end and NG finished very well/strong….
2)NG got a huge effort from Mercedes Wampler and Janelle Henderson….I have them both with 12 points each for a combined 24-point effort and I thought that was huge, especially with Kelli Lomax out, after she suffered what appeared to be a head injury and what might be a concussion-related injury/issue from last Friday nights’s game versus Eastern Guilford…Huge effort from both Wampler and Henderson with Lomax out tonight…
3)Excellent job of passing on the secondary break in quick transition by Sammi Furlough…On the third and last pass of the fast break she hit Wampler in stride for some beautiful buckets and those buckets were set up by excellent passing from Sammi Furlough…
4)Kassie Robakiewicz a very solid 7 points and every one of those 7 points came from the foul line…According to my numbers, NG hit 20 free throws and they were something like 20-26 at the free throw stripe….
5)While the NEG defense was slumping back and dropping down on Elissa Cunane to try and stop her and cut her off, Cunane was finding her teammates open all over the offensive end of the floor…She did a great job of distributing the ball and oh by the way, in the process she scored 23 points and had right at 16-17 rebounds…We mentioned all five of the NG scoring and Sammi Furlough joined in with 5 points and the entire starting five got involved in the offense tonight at NEG…
6)This is number 6 and it should be #9 and I will make it my last point on the game for now….DO NOT play
H-O-R-S-E with #21, Pam Mock, from Northeast Guilford
…She hit three, three-pointers tonight and all three came on bank shots and you won’t see too many people doing that, all that often…Three three’s on bank shots…And did she call bank, only she knows for sure….Nichelle Jeffries had 21 points to lead NEG tonight and she had that wild buzzer-beater to end the first quarter and she gave her team some lifts with her scoring when NEG was working to make those key runs at the end of the first and early in the fourth quarter….Pam Mock finished with 11 points for the NEG Rams and remember, don’t volunteer to play her in H-O-R-S-E….Those bank shots she shoots, will get you every time….NEG made some runs, but they could not catch and keep up with Northern Guilford tonight…Glad I went to/attended this ball game, it was very entertaining and fun to watch/observe…Good job ladies from both teams to both coaches, Coach Furlough(NG) and Coach Steele(NEG)….
